This recipe makes 15x10 -inch snack bread
Bread Flour3 cups
Active Dry Yeast2+1/4 tsp
Sugar2 TBSP
Instant minced onion1 TBSP
Salt1 tsp
Caraway seed1 tsp
Milk1 cup
Water1/4 cup
Shortening3 TBSP
Egg, separated1
Smoked sliced beef or corned beef, snipped1 pkg (3 oz.)
Shredded Cheddar cheese1+1/2 cups

In large mixer bowl, combine 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, onion, salt and caraway seed; mix well. In saucepan, heat milk, water and shortening to 120-130°F (shortening does not need to melt); add to flour mixture. Add egg yolk. Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 3 minutes at medium speed. By hand, gradually stir in remaining flour to make a stiff batter. Spread evenly in greased 15x10-inch jelly roll pan. Brush with slightly beaten egg white.  Sprinkle with beef and shredded cheese. Bake at 375°F for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.

You can substitute Instant (fast-rising) in place of Active Dry Yeast in batter/no knead recipes. When using Instant Yeast, expect your batter/dough to rise faster - about 50% faster. Adjust your rise times accordingly.  Traditional methods: use equal amounts; Bread Machine: use 1/2 tsp Instant Yeast OR 3/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast per cup of flour in your recipe. This has all the elements of yumminess in it -- homemade bread, melty cheese, smoked beef, and some caraway for kick. Great recipe, Heather!
