DEEP DISH ALL-AMERICAN PIZZA

This quick rise dough is ready so fast you must make the filling first. A sloppy joe type meat mixture topped with fresh mushrooms, tomatoes and shredded Cheddar cheese makes this pizza unique.

Pizza Sauce and Toppings

1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 cup catsup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 medium firm, ripe tomatoes, sliced
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
2 cups (8 oz.) shredded Cheddar cheese

Sauté ground beef, onion and green pepper in skillet until meat is lightly browned; drain if necessary. Add catsup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic salt, and pepper. Simmer 15 minutes.

Pizza Crust

3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) RED STAR® Active Dry or QUICK•RISE™Yeast
11/2 teaspoons salt
1 cup warm water
3 tablespoons canola or olive oil

Oven 425º
One 14-inch round or 13- x 9-inch Deep Dish Pizza

In large mixer bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, yeast and salt; mix well. Add very warm water (120º to 130ºF) and oil to flour mixture. Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 3 minutes at medium speed. By hand, gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a firm dough. Knead on floured surface 3 to 5 minutes. On lightly floured surface, roll dough to a 16-inch circle. Place in an oiled 14-inch round deep-dish pizza pan, pushing dough halfway up side of pan. (The dough could also be rolled to a 15- x 11-inch rectangle and placed in a 13- x9- x2-inch baking pan.) Cover; let rise in warm place until puffy, about 15 minutes

Spread pizza sauce over dough. Arrange tomatoes on sauce. Sprinkle mushrooms on top. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 425ºF for 20 to 25 minutes until edge is crisp and golden brown and cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
